Ik vraag me nog steeds af waarom de Finnen hakenkruizen op hun toestellen hadden. Wel een knappe luchtmacht voor die tijd bij die Finnen, daar konden de Hollanders nog wat van leren. Ook heel veel verschillende types vliegtuigen
Hier zijn nog wat afbeeldingen hoe ze zijn geweest voor wie het leuk vind
zeer veel en mooie foto's van deze interessante kist, bedankt voor het plaatsen! wel een apart verhaal dat alleen de finnen met deze kisten tevreden waren, de engelsen amerikanen en nederlanders vonden het helemaal niets. de finnen hebben ze natuurlijk wel aangepast aan hun eigen verlangens, wat dus blijkbaar een erg goede zet was.
die hakenkruizen zijn finse geluks tekens, ze vlogen er al veel langer mee. maar doordat de duitsers er ook mee vlogen is het nu verboden en vliegen ze met roundels van dezelfde kleur.

De afbeeldingen kom uit het boek Military aircraft markings & profils van Barry Wheeler.
Opzich niet apart dat de Finnen goede dingen met de Brewsters deden; in tegenstelling tot de Amerikanen, Engelsen en Nederlanders gebruikte men in Finland deze kisten op de juiste wijze; 'boom and zoom' taktieken, gebaseerd op hoogte en snelheids overwicht.
In de Pacific gingen de geallieerde vliegers (enigzins naief) 'dogfighten' tegen de veel lichtere en wendbare Japanse jagers, dat natuurlijk tot rampzalige gevolgen leidde.
Overigens, de Finse Brewsters hadden minder sterke motoren dan de geallieerde export versies.
De Finnen hadden ook een goede scholing voor hun vliegers, op hoogstaand niveau. Als je de doctrines van Finse aces, zoals Hans Wind leest, is het ook wel duidelijk hoe doelmatig ze het tactische gedeelte van een luchtoorlog uitvoerden. Zelfs met de onderbewapende en langzamere Fokker D.XXI's wisten ze betere tegenstanders neer te schieten, tegen relatief weinig verliezen.

De Finse Swastika heeft niets te maken met de Hakenkruis. De Finse Swastika is gekozen als nationaliteitsteken, omdat dit het persoonlijke teken was van Graaf Eric von Rosen. Hij doneerde het eerste vliegtuig aan het pas onstane onafhankelijke Finse luchtmacht in 1918. Overigens wordt de Swastika al duizende jaren gebruikt in verschillende religies en culturen. Lauri Nissinen had vier kills met de D.21 in de Winteroorlog, voor squadron 24 de Brewster kreeg.
Plaatje #25-5 is de VL Humu, de Finse houten Buffalo.
