Dag,
Waar is rapwi een afkorting van? Dan kan ik je misschien verder helpen. Deze komt in mijn terminologiewoordenboek niet voor. Vandaar mijn vraag.
Het betekent:Recovery-Rescue (of)Allied Prisoners (of) War (and) Internees.

RAPWI
On the Japanese surrender on 15 August 1945 the first task was to assist and evacuate the many prisoners of war and other internees of the Japanese. The Allied forces had prepared for this through the Recovery of Allied Prisoners of War and Internees (RAPWI) which was established in January 1945 as a British organisation. RAPWI arrived in the NEI on 12 September 1945[i].
In addition to using ML-KNIL aircraft, the organisation also used captured Japanese aircraft flown by Japanese crews under Dutch command. Initially these aircraft were flown with green crosses on white backgrounds as their markings.
The RAPWI flew up to ten Tachikawa Ki-54 light transport which were also identified as ‘Soren’. They were used from 25 September 1945, to fly a regular Batavia – Bandoeng – Semarang – Batavia service until the end of 1945 as well as a Semarang – Soerabaja – Djokjakarta and a Batavia – Semarang – Soerabaja service. Aircraft attrition was high and by Novermber 1945 only six remained at Tjililitan
Another type used by the RAPWI was the Mitsubishi Ki-57 transport aircraft of which five had been found: two in Bandoeng, two on Palembang and one on Semarang, the latter being unserviceable.
RAPWI also used fifteen Yokusuka K5Y1 two seat trainers but their attrition rate was high and a Nakajima A6M2 float plane which had been found in Soerabaja[ii].
RAPWI also successfully negotiated with the Indonesian forces for the use of three Showa L2D3 transports (a Japanese version of the Douglas DC-3 which was also known as Nakajima L2D).
Two aircraft were flown to Cililitan but found to be in such a poor state that it was decided not to use them. The third aircraft was flown to Medan but crashed near Pakanbaroe, in republican territoty, and had to be abandoned[iii].
The Japanese aircraft were used until May 1946, when the use of Japanese aircraft was forbidden by the Dutch military command.

Out of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most.
heer Verbeek,
