Passionate flying enthusiast and broadcaster John Sergeant celebrates the plane that some believe won the war - the Lancaster. The film tells the story of this mighty aircraft and the ordinary people whose lives were made extraordinary through their association with it.

In the hour-long documentary, Sergeant meets the Magnificent Seven – a group of airmen who are the surviving components of what would have made up a full Lancaster crew – and helps a daughter locate the wreckage of her father’s Lancaster nearly 71 years after it was shot down in Germany.

The presenter’s enthusiasm is also infectious as he surveys a bomber, marvelling at how “it really takes your breath away”.

“People say, ‘Not another boring war story. You’re talking about the past.’ But for these people, you’re talking about the present – their present,” says Sergeant, who has also made programmes for the BBC on the Spitfire and the Sea King helicopter.
