4668. Fairchild HC-123B (zie PS aan het eind van plaatsing) Provider (USAF serial number 54-0668) is an American military transport aircraft. It was operated by the United States Coast Guard from 1960 to 1969 for logistical support and search-and-rescue operations. In 1970 preserved at the USAF History and Traditions Museum at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas.

Aircraft History
Built as a C-123B-9-FA Provider in the 1950s. / Transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard in March 1960. / Redesignated as HC-123B for its search-and-rescue role. / Returned to the U.S. Air Force in June 1969. / Converted to the C-123K variant before being retired.

Operational Use
The Coast Guard used it to support the LORAN C navigation network. Operated out of stations in Miami, Florida, Puerto Rico, and Barbers Point, Hawaii. / Distinguished by a unique Coast Guard color scheme and a large nose-mounted APN-158 radar.

Op de foto hierboven (prachtfoto overigens!) is het type dus een HC-123B, want de C-123J en C-123K hadden 2 extra straalmotoren (ala Neptune) op de plek waar bij deze de underwing tanks zitten.

The "Featherweight" configuration was a 1954 USAF weight-reduction program for the Convair B-36 Peacemaker designed to boost the intercontinental bomber's speed and combat ceiling. Featherweight Configuration II specifically removed rear crew-comfort facilities and all hardware intended to host the McDonnell XF-85 Goblin parasite fighter.
