Originally delivered as the first YB-29 to the United States Army Air Forces, this aircraft was sent in November 1943 to General Motors' Fisher Body Aircraft Development Section for conversion to use Allison V-3420-17 liquid-cooled W24 (twin-V12, common crankcase) inline engines. Fisher was selected for this modification due to their familiarity with the engine, which was also intended for the P-75 Eagle they were developing. Testing began in early 1944. (Source: Facebook)
